PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

DELL EMC (FORMERLY EMC), RTP, NC 2004 to 2017
Director, Global Innovation & Business Development Operations (2010 to 2017)

Devised, organized, and drove multi-discipline projects to enhance and expand global innovation and business presence. Scope included program definition, ideation, contract and legal matters, customer interaction, vendor/partner management, program management, and direct engineering management as appropriate under multiple software, business development, and innovation vice presidents.

  • Increased Life Sciences product sales $15M+ via Metalnx (https://github.com/irods-contrib/metalnx-web), an agile web/cloud application developed helping genomic researchers and data curators with information management of complex data sets and user-defined metadata.
  • Returned $115M in real value, managing $26M in Brazilian R&D tax credits over 8-years, investing in engineering and university R&D projects, handling some directly, others via influence with business units. Responsible for vision, risk management, project decision-making, and accountability of results.
  • Designed consumer home network attached storage system with adaptive, on demand, video transcoding (media format conversions), leading ideation, development, and program management, integrating technologies from 5 global companies, and leveraging the collaboration of 100+ software developers.
  • Transitioned internal China QA team to an India based partner, reducing QA costs by $2M over 4-years and expanding test coverage in the process.
    Organized Global Innovation Council, initiative to share knowledge and best practice across R&D / development centers in Brazil, China, Israel, Ireland, Egypt, and Russia, growing regular attendance to 100+ participants.
  • Served as advisor to Israel, Brazil, and Skolkovo (Russia) R&D centers on projects, leading alignment of all global development sites with CTO innovation objectives and technology vision.
  • Grew software partnerships from 2 to 15 in 1-year by standardizing the partner engineering program for Iomega StorCenter product line, increasing native applications and adding $2M in additional sales.
  • Developed lab specifications for Brazil R&D center, working with construction teams ensuring cost targets were met and advising management team on workflow process, metrics, and operations planning.

Director, Storage Products Global Business Operations Team (2004 to 2010)

Organized, influenced, and advised Storage Products Engineering teams to leverage offshore global engineering including business case generation, training/transition planning, and ongoing engagement models. Drove vendor selection and management activities including quarterly business reviews, quantitative scorecard system, IT coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Grew global engineering talent ratio from 0 to 20%+, providing annual labor savings of 35%+, and building a partner resource based global engineering portfolio of 700+ software developers.
  • Improved development partner interaction and results through training, process improvement, mentoring, and feedback, implemented via quarterly business reviews, partner visitation program, KPIs, metrics, policies, controls, and a quantitative scorecard system.
  • Designed and advised construction of engineering labs in Russia and Singapore along with test labs at strategic partner locations, ensuring costs, implementation, and engineering needs were met.
  • Expanded CLARiiON Executive Briefing Day program to 6 events per year, providing annual direct client interaction for 60+ software developers, with 200+ customers aiding local sales growth by $2-4M per year.
